Glee 1x02 - "Showmance" song reviews

Ah, I was originally going to post the reviews for the songs in "Opening Night", but I got too lazy. Without any further ado, here is the song reviews for "Showmance"!

Gold Digger
by Kanye West feat Jamie Foxx sung by Will Schuester, Mercedes Jones, and Artie Abrams with New Directions.
The first time that Will raps on the show, if you don't like his rapping like everybody else in the Glee fandom, then good luck with this season. His rapping isn't bad, but still. Anyway, Mercedes' intro is really strong, in my opinion, her intro is better than Jamie Foxx's in the original. I'm not really into rap, so I can't provide much insight into the quality of the cover, all I know is that the parts where Will doesn't rap sounds nice!

Grade: C+

Push It by Salt-n-Pepa sung by Finn Hudson, Rachel Berry, Mercedes Jones, Tina Cohen-Chang and Artie Abram with New Directions
Fun Fact: The Parent Television Council rated Glee the "worst show on television" after this performance.
Besides that lol, Artie's voice fits this song very well, he was the standout of the performance, besides the hilarious performance itself. The one part that sounds forced is Finn's solo part, ti sounds awkward and rushed to me. The song is just a huge sexual innuendo itself, and I understand why parents would want their children to stay away from Glee after this performance, but it's a PG-13 show, not Mickey Mouse & The Clubhouse, so it's fair-game.

Grade: C

I Say A Little Prayer by Dionne Warwick sung by Quinn Fabray with Santana Lopez and Brittany.
The Unholy Trinity's audition song for the Glee club. The first I noticed was that Quinn's voice is soft and sweet, which makes it different from probably the most famous cover of the song, which is Aretha Franklin's cover. The back-up singers overpower Quinn's voice in the chorus, which is almost never a good thing. Also, the back-up singers are obviously not just 2 people, there is no way that only 2 people recorded back-up vocals, maybe 3 at least. The cover was good, it could've been better with a better backing track.

Grade: B-

Take A Bow by Rihanna sung by Rachel Berry with Mercedes Jones and Tina Cohen-Chang
Rachel takes on a Rihanna song. I'm still wondering why they sometimes use the original backing track for this covers, I get it if Rachel was uploading a cover of her singing that on Youtube, and she used a karaoke track, but she has two talented girls behind her back, supposedly "backing-up" for her. R&B is not in Lea Michele's (Rachel) wheelhouse, but she does the song justice.

Grade: B
